in the 21st Century initiative formally began its second year with an
event titled, Toward Renewal: What Have We Learned? Where Are We
Going? University President William P. Leahy, S.J., opened the evening
by reflecting on the past years programs. Then a panel of six speakerslay
and religious, students and professionalstook the floor. Moderated
by Tim Russert of NBC News and Meet the Press, the discussion covered
the state of the Catholic Church today, what has been learned in the aftermath
of the sexual abuse crisis, and what challenges still lie ahead.
