September 18, 2003: "Towards Renewal: What Have We Learned? Where Are We Going?," with Patrick B. Downes '05, J. Bryan Hehir, Mary Johnson, Catalina Montes, Elizabeth M. Paulhus '04, and Peter Steinfels. Moderated by Tim Russert.

On September 18, 2003, in Conte Forum, Boston College’s Church in the 21st Century initiative formally began its second year with an event titled, “Toward Renewal: What Have We Learned? Where Are We Going?” University President William P. Leahy, S.J., opened the evening by reflecting on the past year’s programs. Then a panel of six speakers—lay and religious, students and professionals—took the floor. Moderated by Tim Russert of NBC News and Meet the Press, the discussion covered the state of the Catholic Church today, what has been learned in the aftermath of the sexual abuse crisis, and what challenges still lie ahead.
